All the Eights

Posted by
Stu (From Scotland | Working in Kyoto, Japan) on 7 May 2009 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

This is part of a traditional Japanese drain pipe commonly found around temples and shrines. I found this one at Eikando (永観堂).

I couldn't decide if colour was the way to go with this one or not so I've posted a colour version here.

bluechameleon from Vancouver, Canada

This is such a wonderful image...a sense of calm and balance. The colour version has an entirely different feel, equally as beautiful but with a different kind of energy.

@bluechameleon: I'm glad you took the time to look at them bluechameleon, and really appreciate the comment.

GJC from Kyoto (京都), Japan

Magical. Though I do like b&w photography very much, in this one I am drawn to the warmth in the tones of the color version. I know color isn't for "serious" photographers, but I find it can add such depth to an image. Neither is better than the other, of course, but my preference is for the richness in the color version.

@GJC: Thx for taking the time to view both GJC. I really appreciate your constant support and insights.

Esther K from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

I can't decided which one I like better, too - both are great, Stu - I do like the warm tones of the coloured version. It is an elegant composition - even the fine cobwebs (?) in between the chains came through nicely - I liked that too. Have a nice weekend :-)

8 May 2009 12:57am

@Esther K: Thanks for dropping by Esther, and you have a good one too.

Ken from United States

Stu, like this alot. I am drawn to it in a mysterious kind of way and love the out of focus background shapes. Are those cobwebs I see with my squinty little eyes?

8 May 2009 2:27am

@Ken: Thx Ken! Your squinty eyes serve you well - cobwebs they are.
