This is part of a traditional Japanese drain pipe commonly found around temples and shrines. I found this one at Eikando (永観堂).
I couldn't decide if colour was the way to go with this one or not so I've posted a colour version here.

This is such a wonderful image...a sense of calm and balance. The colour version has an entirely different feel, equally as beautiful but with a different kind of energy.

Magical. Though I do like b&w photography very much, in this one I am drawn to the warmth in the tones of the color version. I know color isn't for "serious" photographers, but I find it can add such depth to an image. Neither is better than the other, of course, but my preference is for the richness in the color version.

What an amazingly elegant drain pipe... and it has come to life through such lovely lighting and composition! IMO, b&w works extremely well for this shot!:-)

I can't decided which one I like better, too - both are great, Stu - I do like the warm tones of the coloured version. It is an elegant composition - even the fine cobwebs (?) in between the chains came through nicely - I liked that too. Have a nice weekend :-)
