Miho Museum: why go around the mountain?

Going to focus on this place for the next few days. It's got some fascinating architecture and if you get the chance I highly recommend a visit.

This tunnel was built to provide access to the museum from the car park and visitors' centre. It seems to have no other destination, or traffic for that matter.
