Glamis Castle

Posted by Stu (Scotland | Residing in Kyoto, Japan) on 30 May 2007 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Thanks for your thoughts on yesterday's post. Seems people are equally divided over the colour and b&w.
The 3rd post in the Scotland series brings us on a brief stop back to the mainland. Glamis Castle is still a family home believe it or not, and is about 20 miles from my parents' house. Some parts of it date back to the late 14th century but it has been modified and added to many times since then. The Queen Mother was born here and it is featured on some Royal Bank of Scotland bank notes. The grounds cover about 14,000 acres and are open to the public.

I would really like a house that big to live in! Really love the architecture. Is it possible to get any closer?

That's a lot in a tiny frame - those hills behind must give a great view across the top of the castle. Looks like you had a most profitable holiday, Stu - the "stones" on Arran are endlessly intriguing.

Yeah, that's all good and well but what I want to know is: Is there a pool one can leap into off the top of the flag pole?
