Nice natural portrait Stu, and I like the pp work in dulling the background so we focus on her face.

Sash from Adelaide, Australia

You caught her at a reflective moment that's both flattering and innocent. You've got to tell me in more detail how you do the contrasting foreground and background as it adds to the subject's allure.

@Sash: Thanks Sash. If you have Skype let me know your details, if not, I recommend downloading it. Then I can talk you through it no problem.

Very warm image. I like that we don't know what she's looking at / who she's with etc... nice ambiguity.

Alex Lee from Jeju, South Korea

Looking back at some of your archived photos, I really like the soft colors you employ.

I lived in Japan for a few years as a college student and later for work, but I moved to Korea last April with my wife (also a student in Japan, but she's Korean). I've been to Kyoto a few times and done the tourist deal (obligatory 金閣寺、清水寺, etc.) but I much prefer your Kyoto than my touristy Kyoto.

Have you been down to Kyushu at all? If you have the chance, you should take a weekend and head down there - There are some amazing photo opportunities the further you head south.

@Alex Lee: Many thanks Alex. Yeah, it's funny you should mention Kyushu. I have visited Okinawa and Hokkaido but not Kyushu or Shikoku, and was thinking about going to one of them the next time I have some time off. If you have any specific places in mind I'd really love to hear about them.
Re the touristy photo thing: having been in Kyoto for 4 years now I think I've been forced to find other subjects. Saying that though, I do occasionally do stereotypical style shots of famous landmarks etc, esp recently.
Anyway, thanks for checking out my shots and the suggestion Alex. Much appreciated.

Sidonie from Sydney, Australia

Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, Australia

Very nice, the way you've used light in this photo is impressive especially how it reflects of her hair; this also enhances the effect of depth of field. Great work, you've captured a nice moment!
