Sidonie from Sydney, AustraliaMy goodness! What would happen in an earthquake - that huge statue would crush everything and everyone! Or have I misunderstood the scale here? 22 Apr 2007 9:47am @Sidonie: Thanks Sidonie! No misunderstanding. It is indeed enormous. However, it is hollow inside - you can walk around inside it and see 12 statues of the Bhudda. Chris Sullivan from Melbourne, AustraliaThe symmetry in this scene is quite arresting, really made me step back and take it in. That technique you have of injecting images with that golden tint works incredibly well here, contrasting well with the trees in the background. As always, nicely taken! 22 Apr 2007 10:02am Sash from Adelaide, AustraliaStunning treatment here, Stuaato. Chris has summed it up gloriously which is why I won't continue my written appreciation of it. I was aghast ('Holy crap!' said I) when I learned they demanded an entry fee to this place. I guess that's why I took rather dodgy pics of it from the wrong side of the enormous wall there. And why I'm about to download this one and slap it onto my desktop for further scrutiny/adoration. 'Ha-ha! Take that, city of Kyoto!' says I. ;p 22 Apr 2007 12:09pm @Sash: Thanks Sash. Yeah I know what you mean about the fee. Even though it's only 200yen it still burns. Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaKannon shot with a Canon... I keep waiting for her to get up and walk away from that pedestal. There's something disorienting about the scale, as though it were a 'trick' photo. 22 Apr 2007 9:59pm @Damon Schreiber: Ha! Thanks Damon! She really is quite a fantastic sight, up there on the edge of the hill with those trees behind her.
