First post from the new EOS. Still trying to figure it out! Took this on purely automatic and just cropped it - no other post production. Advice welcomed!

Hey Stu nice first pic from the new EOS. If you got a pretty big memory card I'd just take pictures at 10 megapix. I'm a beginner at taking photos to and my mates first lesson was mess around with the plus and minus EV/Shutter speed levels (its the little dial just behind the shutter button)
Put your camera in Manual and mess around with it. You've probably still got all 9 points of focus on automatic mode but in manual mode try to use different points ot get blurred backgrounds. Hope it helps. Great first subject mate.

Nice try for a first with a new camera! I love the photo. About an advice...Take as much photo as you can... (yeah stupid advice) Another, a friend gave me when I first had an SLR. Aperture mode to have better control on depth of field, Speed mode for action shots... Last one something I try a lot is making photos so that I don't have any need to crop it after... It's not easy.

Hey man, Thats one impressive looking puppy. Honkokuji? Never been there mate, but looks mighty nice. Maybe the next foray might have to be in this direction.
