The camera is pretty pricey but well worth it once you've taken some pics and seen the resolution on screen. It's definitely competition for the 30d. Re the sky / leaf resolution: I'm not too sure! Just beginners' luck I guess. Just applied a little soft glow in photoshop. with the kiss x i got the lens set - 18-55 and 55-200.
